I never suffered the terror that was Vista. I did however work at BT broadband repair when it came out so I know firsthand that it caused a lot of difficulties. The usage of the system was alien to people, they were used to drag and expand format that was the Windows mainstay. Unfortunately for some though it was the only programme available on new machines. This piece of kit could be the best thing that has happened to any of these poor people.
It saves the whole shebang of your files, photos, films etc, then ‘migrates’ it into Windows 7.
Easy.
You can do it for more than 1 PC which is really good for most households thesedays that have several computers.
A good solution – a nice programme to run and Windows 7 really does run like a dream.
Well recommended.
I wish I had this when I ditched my old PC for my new laptop. I had to restart all of my folders and programs from scratch. All of my important files had to be transferred with a measly 1GB flash drive which took ages! I used this program on a friend’s PC and it couldn’t have been simpler. All you do is select your old data, transfer via the Ethernet cable from PC to PC and your done. It’ll save hours and hours of waiting. I did it the hard way, with this software you won’t have to. If you can afford the price tag it’s quick, easy and stress-free.
First the warnings:-
Please note you do not need this programme if you are running Vista it will upgrade. Although Diskimage is still very useful.
Before you buy this or even Windows 7 run the “Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant” programme that Microsoft supply on their website to ensure that your XP PC is upgradeable.
This migration package is just that a migration package and you need to buy Windows 7 separately this is not a criticism but it could me misunderstood and assumed this programme was all that was needed to upgrade.
It does not migrate hardware drivers.
You may have to re enable any copy protected software, videos or music depending on the type of copy protection.
You need to remove your virus protection software and reinstall it.
The rest is good news:-
The package consists of two programmes Diskimage 4 professional version and PC Mover for windows 7 ( it states in the manufacturers information 2 CDs however mine came with only one with both programmes on it) an Ethernet connecting cable in case you want to upgrade to a different PC and a comprehensive instruction booklet. Although Disk Image is a 3 PC licence once you have installed it you can use it any number of times. This excellent programme allows you to restore all off your original XP operating system plus programmes should you not like Windows 7 it will also allow you to make an image of your new set up so that you can restore to this in future if you wish to. The PC Mover software is however limited to 3 uses and you need to get an activation key each time you use it, this is fine if you have an internet connection at the time of migration but if you do not you will have to use another PC to get the activation code.
The migration to Windows 7 is straightforward and the software has the minimum of user interaction however it does take a long time to create the file that they call van in fact the manual states several hours (It is not wrong). However after waiting for what seems a life time everything installed all of the programmes worked under Windows 7. I just had to install the virus software and one hardware driver and all was fine.
Recommended but why did Microsoft make an operating system that makes third party applications necessary for an easy install Microsoft do supply a free programme that goes someway into allowing an install from XP to Windows 7 but you still have to reinstall almost all of your programmes.
